Kitesurf spot ''Le Touquet''
All the information you need to kite there safely
If you're looking for a cool spot to kite, you've come to the right place!
Easily accessible from Paris, it takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes to get to Le Touquet Plage.
Located in the heart of the Hauts-de-France region on the Opal Coast, Le Touquet offers us its famous fine sandy beach. It stretches over 11 kilometres between the Bay of Canche and Stella Plage. You will easily find a parking spot there even if it attracts tourists.
When the tide is low, you should allow time for a short walk to reach the water, with the gear you'll get your cardio working!
Let's talk serious now! Here are the elements that will help you enjoy your kite session:
Winds and tides
Wind
The best orientations range from South to North via the West.
However, be careful, the South wind is often disturbed by the point of Berck, so it must be very slightly West for it to be optimal.
A little extra tip (just for you 😉): when the wind is North-East, East or South-East, there is a fallback spot just next to Le Touquet: it's the Baie de Canche!
Be careful though, there are two things to take into account before riding there:
- The spot is only accessible from 1h30 before high tide to 1h30 after high tide
- This bay is not recommended for beginners as there is a current; many people lose their boards there, so be sure of your level before heading out!
You will find a detailed diagram below :
The tides
For the tides, no particular counter indication! Yes, there are spots like that 😉
There’s even a small bonus : at mid-tide, baïnes (big flat water basins, not very deep and not dangerous) are formed, and allow you a moment of pure happiness with your lover, your kite 😍
The only small "but" (there always has to be one): know that at low tide the sea withdraws very far, and a small walk will be necessary to reach the water!
Safety and access
Sécurité
The beach is huge and is divided into three zones:
South zone:
In the South zone, at high tide, we advise you not to unpack your kite there, as the sea comes up against the houses and shops.
Another obstacle to avoid, and not the least, is the wreck of the Socotra boat which is just in front of the Thalasso, on your left when you are facing the sea. Speaking of the Thalasso, at low tide one of its sewage pipes can be seen. Our opinion? It can't be very pleasant to get your board caught in it! So be careful about that 😉
Center zone:
This is reserved for bathers only; it is forbidden to water sports, and therefore inaccessible for kiting.
Zone Nord :
In summary, the northern part is the best one. It is obstacle-free and the sand dunes will offer you a magnificent landscape.
How to get there? Very simple, the North zone starts at the Aqualud car park. To be sure to avoid the centre and its bathers, we recommend going north of it. That way, you'll avoid riding into bigger fish.
Access
As mentioned above, choose the area north of the Aqualud to go kiting. You can park in the car park of the Aqualud, which is located here:
